Inorganic Pigment is one of the chemical compounds that are not based on carbon and are usually metallic salts that have been precipitated from the solutions. In comparison to the particle size of the organic pigment, the particles of this kind are much larger in size. Because of large particle size it can scatter maximum amount of light which results in opacity, thus making the particles opaque in nature. Due to the chemical composition of Inorganic Pigment, it offers better stability in presence of organic solvents, resulting in lower resistivity against migration and bleeding of pigment. Its excellent leanness property helps it in rendering matte finish to the product in which it has been used.

Some characteristics of Inorganic Pigment are mentioned below:
  • Due to the presence of mineral content, these are heavy in weight
  • Capability of withstanding weather conditions can vary immensely
  • Ability to disperse is better than organic pigment
  • Possess excellent ability to be stable to heat
